SILVERCHAIR Add Two Keyboardists For Big Day Out
January 8, 2002Australia's SILVERCHAIR will bring along not one, but two keyboard players on their upcoming Big Day Out festival tour, according to the group's official web site. The unusual move will allow the live versions of their new songs to contain lots of the extra sounds which feature on their albums. Neon Ballroom tour keyboardist Sam Holloway will rejoin SILVERCHAIR's Ben Gillies, Chris Joannou and Daniel Johns for this tour. Also coming on board this time as an extra tour keyboard player is Sydney musician Julian Hamilton. Julian has played with various local underground acts like PROP and CODA as well as moonlighting with acclaimed club act PNAU. The statement on the band's web site goes on to say that many bands these days choose to use backing tapes or sequencers to add extra instruments in their live shows. SILVERCHAIR have never done this and they don't intend to start now. They want to keep their live shows completely LIVE. However, in order to do this and still include piano, string and brass sounds on their albums, they need a few extra hands ... that's where Sam and Julian will come in during the Big Day Out.
